Retina Consultants is continuing to grow and is seeking a Medical Scribe to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced retina specialists in a highly specialized area of ophthalmology while developing valuable clinical knowledge and documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately document physician-patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR), including patient history, examination findings, assessments, and treatment plans.
  • Transcribe physician dictation, chart reviews, and procedural documentation.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Ensure documentation is completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Prepare and organize patient charts before clinic visits to support efficient patient flow.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and the healthcare team regarding patient care and documentation needs.
  • Maintain professionalism while fostering a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and complete all required training and education.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to two years of experience in a medical office preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience as a medical scribe, transcriptionist, or in another healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred but not required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong typing skills (minimum 50–60 words per minute).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, and coworkers.
  • Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Manual dexterity to operate computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move medical supplies or equipment.

Travel

Following initial training in our Salem clinic, this position participates in a rotating schedule that includes travel to our satellite clinics in Albany, Corvallis, and Newberg. Travel typically occurs one to two days per week. All travel time and mileage are reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
