Job Description

General Statement of Job

The Broadcast Specialist maintains the technical operations of the University’s TV and radio stations equipment and facilities, as well as maintains campus wiring needs by performing the following duties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Repairs, inspects, cleans, and installs equipment.
  • Performs weekly inspections of transmitters.
  • Reviews and maintains files of the FCC rules and regulations.
  • Oversees network feeds for all stations.
  • Helps with special projects and events.
  • Assists with remote location productions.
  • Maintains all scoreboard and video board functions.
  • Sets up, tests, and maintains all broadcast equipment for streaming all football and basketball home games along with other campus events as needed.
  • Provides technical support during football and basketball home games.
  • Communicates with the MIAA as the primary in-game contact during football and basketball seasons.
  • Provides timely support if TV or radio broadcast goes down including outside of normal business hours.
  • Assists in solving campus technical problems as needed.
  • Aids in evaluating, specifying, and ordering new electronic equipment and accessories.
  • Provides campus support for the cable system in dorm rooms.
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains network peripherals for all of campus (this includes but is not limited to network drops, security cameras, access points).
  • Installs various types of cable, including copper data cable, copper telephony cable, and cable TV, CC Camera cable.
  • Terminates cables to correct technical specification.
  • Terminates RJ-11 and RJ45 modular cable interface.
  • Terminates RG-6 and RG-59 COAX cable interface.
  • Identifies network and telephony equipment.
  • Installs wire molding and cable termination boxes.
  • Installs all wall-mounted TVs, monitors, PCs, and related technology across campus.
  • Communicates with technical support as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Two plus years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

FCC First Class or General Broadcast License preferred.
