Description
Under the close supervision of a supervisory official, in an Environmental Services Program, learns to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the improvement and/or monitoring of environmental conditions, and/or the enforcement of environmental laws/regulations; does other related duties.

Specific to the Position
Division of Waste and UST Compliance and Enforcement (Position 1):
The duties and responsibilities of this position are primarily inspection based providing compliance audits at hazardous waste generators, transporters, treatment/storage/disposal facilities, used oil collection and processing facilities, and Class D universal waste recycling facilities.  In addition, this position investigates complaints of illegal disposal or management of hazardous waste.  Enforcement and settlement documents are prepared and the inspector may be required to testify in court.

Division of Climate Change Mitigation and Monitoring (Position 2):
Operate assigned air monitoring stations that collect ozone and fine particle data with the least amount of downtime in order to meet data completeness requirements.  Review automated quality control checks to confirm EPA measurement objectives are met. Participate in the preparation, collection and handling of samples for the Biowatch Program.  Repair and service analyzers and samplers at the Bureau's Technical Center.  Additional assignments include providing backup support for other field staff members, reviewing daily analyzer diagnostics data, and assisting in low-cost air sensor community monitoring projects. Ability to lift 50 lbs or more. Selected candidate must pass a medical screening to ensure suitability to participate in the Biowatch program.

Preferred Skill Set
Division of Waste and UST Compliance and Enforcement (Position 1):
The selected candidate shall have excellent written and oral communication skills.  Have good organizational skills, pay attention to detail, be open to learning new skills, and be able to work independently upon completion of the journeyman title.

Division of Climate Change Mitigation and Monitoring  (Position 2):
Experience working on electronic/scientific equipment including maintenance and troubleshooting.

Requirements
Education:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.

NOTE:  All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university.  All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.  Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility .

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
